Bites of Inequality – Maren Toft
Capital is back. But where are the capitalists, and what role does the family play in maintaining economic power?

In this talk, Maren Toft presents her forthcoming book, Harvesting the Family Tree: Family Capitalists in the 21st Century (Oxford University Press). Drawing on unique, comprehensive population-wide data, Toft challenges theoretical currents that have left scholars insufficiently attentive to the power of capitalist families today. She shows that kinship networks are far from an anachronism in contemporary society, but remain at the heart of Norway’s capitalist class.
